The Tropical Health and Education Trust (THET) has announced it will be changing its name to Global Health Partnerships from Wednesday 6th November 2024.
The move comes after several years of consultations, which revealed that the charity’s original name no longer effectively communicated the work of the organisation. The new name, Global Health Partnerships, clearly reflects the work of the charity and puts the Health Partnership model – which the NGO has championed for 35 years – at the centre of the organisation’s identity.
The change was revealed to the charity’s close stakeholders at THET’s 2024 Annual Conference this week.
Ben Simms, Chief Executive of Global Health Partnerships, commented: “We are excited to launch our new name, which we feel provides us with the strongest possible platform to continue our brilliant work around the world. Our new name says what we do on the tin: we are global, we are passionate about health, and we work in partnership.”
Global Health Partnerships’ Chair of Trustees, Justin Ash, said: “This is a bold move which modernises the charity’s appearance, while maintaining its dedication to the vision of a world where everyone has access to quality healthcare.
“Launching Global Health Partnerships having just celebrated the charity’s 35th birthday will renew the energy and commitment to our mission for the next 35 years and beyond.”
This new chapter for Global Health Partnerships has provided a springboard for the charity’s expansion within the UK. The charity has, from today, merged with Wales and Africa Health Links Network (WAHLN), which will become Global Health Partnerships Cymru. Early preparations are also taking place to register an ‘arm’ of Global Health Partnerships in Scotland.
The charity’s website will remain www.thet.org until a domain transfer is complete in due course, after which all content will be migrated across.
