UK-Africa Health Summit 2025

The 9th UK-Africa Health Summit in March 2025 will bring together the UK Government, African governments, global health organisations, WHO, civil society  private sector, and other donors to foster greater collaboration and multi-sector efforts aimed at transforming health systems.

Building on the success of 2024, this major event will be shaped in the context of broader UK Government ambitions to restore trust and modernise its partnerships with African countries, amplify opportunities for the deployment of soft power, and provide a platform for disseminating information about the UK Government’s positions in relation to Africa to important stakeholders.

This year’s UK-Africa Health Summit 2025 will focus on five core themes:

• Reflections on the High-Level Meeting on Antimicrobial Resistance
• Advancing discussion on the review of the Code of Practice on the International Recruitment of Health Workers
• Unpacking the challenges of workforce in the context of the 2025 High Level Meeting on Non-Communicable Diseases.
• Understanding the contribution and impact of the Global Health Workforce Programme
• Advancing understanding of the contribution UK diaspora is making to the advancement of health in countries of heritage

The ever-evolving landscape of global health presents a myriad of challenges, from increased antimicrobial resistance to the complex dynamics of workforce mobility and persisting inadequate resourcing of health systems. Sustainable partnerships and alliances that transcend borders are a vital tool in our response.

​Day 1 of the Summit will mainly be focused on the impact of the diaspora health workforce contribution.  To provide a flavour of what to expect the day will include  Senior Government guest panels, focus on the impact of the diaspora contribution in Kenya and Ghana, a session on the review of the Code of Practice on the International Recruitment of Health Workers led by the WHO Expert Advisory Group, plus updates on GHP’s own  Expert in Our Midst diaspora agenda.  

Day 2 of the Summit will cover Health Partnerships, we will highlight sharing and learning from programmes such as the Global Health Workforce Programme and Zimbabwe reflect on the UN General Assembly High-level Meeting (HLM) on Non-Communicable Diseases, look at next steps for Commonwealth Partnerships for Antimicrobial Stewardship (CwPAMS) and much more.

Conference participants are invited to engage through discussions, interactive workshops, and collaborative sessions related to each of the themes, and to hear keynote speeches grounding this work in an appreciation of the priorities being discussed by the representatives of African and UK Governments.
