Bob Lane retired as a colorectal surgeon in 2007 and now devotes his time to advancing surgical education and training in sub-Saharan Africa.
Since 1999, on behalf of the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain & Ireland (ASGBI) and the International Federation of Surgical Colleges (IFSC) he has designed and organised a number of surgical training Courses and lectured extensively in both West and East Africa.
He is Programme Director for International Development at the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland (ASGBI), President of the International Federation of Surgical Colleges (IFSC) and a co-founder of the Global Alliance for Surgical, Obstetric, Trauma, and Anaesthesia Care (TheĀ G4 Alliance). He is President of a Romanian stoma charity and he currently sits on the External Advisory Board of the NIHR Global Health Research Unit on Global Surgery.
